This past weekend, Gustav Heldt hosted twelve other scholars of Japanese literature from across the U.S. and Canada for the Eleventh Annual Waka Workshop on the topic "Exploring Waka Culture Through the Ages." The workshop is part of a larger publication project that is intended to produce a volume on waka poetry's interactions with other media, genres and cultural practices from earliest times through to the contemporary moment. It was made possible by the generous support of the department of East Asian Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Institute for World Languages, and a gift from James McConnell III. WWXI Schedule.
