UVA East Asian Studies major Michael Andreano and Chinese Language and Literature major David Berry were contestants at the Jiangsu Cup Chinese Speech Contest on Sunday, November 4, 2012. Held annually at George Washington University, the contest presents gold, silver and bronze awards to student competitors from colleges and universities across the greater Washington metropolitan area. Mr. Andreano received a Bronze Award in the advanced group and Mr. Berry received a Bronze Award in the intermediate-advanced group. The two will receive full tuition to study Chinese at Nanjing University in either the Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 semesters. Their Chinese instructors, Hui Zhu and Jie Yuan, were there to cheer them on and take photos.
