On May 17th and 18th, a workshop in Japanese pedagogy was held at the College of William and Mary in preparation for the Foreign Language Association of Virginia's annual conference. The FLAVA conference will be held in September 2014, and this workshop gave several participating teachers the chance to review their goals related to language instruction, curriculum improvement, and increasing student performance. The teachers worked together to create a rubric which will be presented at the FLAVA conference.
Those who participated in this conference also participate in regular Skype calls to further their discussions. Tomomi Sato, UVA Lecturer of Japanese, was among the participants. We appreciate our professors' commitments to improving their language instruction techniques and wish Professor Sato well in her endeavors to help language professors discuss important issues in pedagogy.
