Please join us in congratulating the IWL Director, Miao-fen Tseng, for receiving the 2016 Helen Warriner-Burke FLAVA Distinguished Service Award on October 7, 2016. As the Board of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia puts it, the award “honors one foreign language professional each year who has made outstanding contributions to the profession in the commonwealth of Virginia.” It brings honor to Miao-fen Tseng “as a professional of the highest caliber, . . . who has partnered on numerous occasions with the Virginia Department of Education on world languages initiatives, has served on the executive board of numerous world languages associations, including as the founder and president of the Chinese Language Teachers Association [of Virginia], and exemplifies the qualities of an innovative leader through her service to the schools and community.”
