Professor Charles Laughlin will be offering a new course in Chinese Literary Translation in Fall 2013. Please find details on the flyer here.

He will be having an info session on Tuesday, April 9, from 1:00-1:45. Please sign up on his door (CAB 527) if you can make it, or let him know if another time would work better for you.

CHIN 5559 is meant to fulfill the capstone requirement. Very briefly, the course has a prerequisite of CHIN 4020 or instructor permission in cases of heritage learners, native speakers, or learners unusually adept at reading. It will be conducted primarily in English, and will work through a series of units or projects toward a final project in which students will complete a translation of a contemporary short story, essay, or a set of poems. A lot of the initial translation work will be group work, but a significant portion of the grade will be based on individual polished translations.
